‘GOLDEN COBRA’ (2009)

Golden Cobra is one of Dublin’s amateur boxing clubs with training grounds at Thomas Senior School in Jobstown. It originated in the early 1990s, and since then, it’s been considered the most demanding amateur boxing club in Ireland; every few years, somebody from Golden Cobra makes his career in professional boxing.

Facing off is an act performed at the beginning of the fight to show one’s opponent confidence; it is essential for the boxer because it might give him a physical edge over the rival.

The photographic series ‘Golden Cobra’ also provides a platform to discuss the problematic history of this distinctive part of Dublin, the aspirations it’s furnished with, but foremost challenges still omnipresent here.
